The Treasure in Trusting God

Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations. Psalm 90:1

Faith often takes us to places we never planned to go. That was our story when we moved to Chicago for Jay to begin an internship at a large church. Midway through life, he made the bold leap from the business world to ministry, and it felt like stepping off a cliff. We didn’t know anyone in Chicago, and the unknown felt overwhelming.

Shortly after settling into our new neighborhood, my 4-year-old son was invited to attend Vacation Bible School at a nearby church. That simple invitation changed everything. On the first day, I met another mom whose son was the same age as mine. As we chatted, I discovered her husband also worked at the church where Jay was interning.

What started as a chance meeting blossomed into a lifelong family friendship. Our sons became best friends as they grew up attending the same school, the same church, and sharing summer camp adventures year after year. They even attended the same college in the South —Go Tigers!

Just last weekend, we had the joy of celebrating the wedding of Charlie, my son William’s childhood friend, to Meredith. As I watched the ceremony and joined the reception festivities, my eyes were filled with tears, and I was overwhelmed with gratitude. It felt as if I were viewing the moment through God’s eyes, seeing how He had intricately woven our lives together.

Taking that leap of faith to follow God’s calling brought us to a place we never expected but gave us treasures beyond anything we could imagine—deep relationships, shared milestones, and the beauty of witnessing God’s hand at work in our lives.
